What can we tell you about Flavia?

We don’t even know where to start. Let’s see… She’s a Meiga, a sort of good magical being, but she’s very special because her powers come from the knowledge she’s acquired over thousands of years.

She loves wearing a green dress, pink and green striped woollen socks, and a lovely green hat with a little pink flower on the tip.

But you can read all this in her children’s stories, or hear it in her videos. So we’re going to tell you things about Flavia that nobody else knows.

First of all, she studies a lot, and if you don’t, she’ll give you a slap. Flavia says that education and culture are the only things that can save this world.

So let’s start by introducing you to the Meigas.

Meigas

Meigas are tiny magical creatures, perhaps no bigger than the palm of your hand, although they can change size with ease and grow as tall as you if they use a little Donluka flower dust and utter a few magic words.

They have lived in our world for millions of years. You can find them in forests, rivers, the sea or the mountains, and, if you’re lucky, you might even spot one in your home or garden.

The Meigas know all the secrets of life. They can speak to all animals and plants, and they also master the language of the elves and all magical beings. They possess magical powers and can create spells and healing potions. They are great alchemists and expert warriors, as their mission is to fight evil.

Right… that’s the nice bit… But… do you want to know more?

Meeting a Meiga is one of the best things that can happen to you in life. They’re very curious, and they’ll definitely take you along on their adventures.

They love chatting for hours, acting out everything they’ve done as if they were in a theatre. And then suddenly they disappear and you don’t see them for days!

When this happens, don’t panic… they’re surely saving a poor squirrel that’s got trapped under a mountain troll’s bum or playing chess with Pepon the mouse.

They’re very independent… and their world isn’t like ours… they see things we don’t, nor do they need to earn money.

I’ve never met a Meiga who’s done anything wrong.

So I’m going to tell you all about Flavia the Meiga.

Flavia the Meiga

Flavia the Meiga

Flavia is the Meiga who looks after the Old Oak Forest.

It’s a very ancient forest, inhabited by the elves of the village of Melon. Nobody knows exactly where the forest is, because when Flavia takes us there, she does so through our dreams. That doesn’t stop Flavia from spending hours in our house, though.

Do you know why?

Because Flavia loves the cinnamon buns that Lola makes.

Sometimes she gets annoyed with the oven because she says it takes too long to bake the buns. She’s a real glutton!

She usually comes in the morning, because she likes to eat them fresh out of the oven. Once, Lola told her that the recipe was Swedish and that over there they call them Kanelbullar. Flavia burst out laughing and told her she sounded like Guiri the Viking.

After breakfast, Flavia sits with Lola to watch her paint watercolours of herself and her friends. Sometimes she hides Lola’s paintbrushes. But we know she does it to tell us she wants to share something important, or that she wants more buns.

When midday comes, Flavia and Lola go to the vegetable garden, or she comes with us for a walk in the woods and then leaves. What she does to get back to the Old Oak Forest is something we don’t know.

The truth is, we love her very much. She has completely changed our lives. I remember the day she told us how she had gone to the Island of the Gray Cracks to save her mother. We watched her, sitting on top of Lola’s watercolour box, as she described everything that had happened. I couldn’t stop thinking about the Viking ships from the Northern Kingdom that had gone to help her. I felt like just another Viking. I even put on my old Viking helmet!

She burst out laughing…

Guiri the Viking.

We can’t keep talking about Flavia without telling you who Guiri the Viking is.

I could tell you he’s her best friend, but Flavia has lots of great friends. Lola and I suspect that what they feel for each other is something else entirely.

Once, on one of the trips we took during our dreams to the Old Oak Forest, I went fishing with Guiri the Viking and Romulus the Roman. Every time I asked him about Flavia, he’d blush and let out a silly little giggle.

Another time, while helping him look for amber on the beach, I found a particularly beautiful piece, with a flower inside. I asked Guiri if he wanted to give it to Flavia. He looked at me intently, Viking to Viking. Then he smiled and told me he was in love with Flavia, but that he knew the Meigas couldn’t get married.

I told him to stop talking nonsense. I spoke to him about true love and how nothing is impossible. He replied by telling me it was easier for a reindeer to pass through the eye of a needle.

I replied by telling him that if the Meigas wanted it, a whole herd of reindeer would pass through the eye of the smallest needle in the world.

Sometimes, to achieve something, you just need patience, to fight for it… and always respect it.

I reminded him of what happened during the Elves’ Olympics. On that journey, Flavia and Guiri cleansed the largest lake in the Northern Kingdom of the poison of the Farturium.

Well, I’ll tell you, Vikings are very stubborn… but they know how to get things done.

This morning, while Flavia was eating a tray full of cinnamon buns, she asked us if we could do her a favour.

Do you know what she asked us?

She wanted us to write a book for the children of the world, in which we would share the wisdom of the Meigas.

A sort of book of spells, stories and knowledge.

I think we’re going to do it.

We wish you a happy day.
